Globally, it is estimated that about 402,000 petabytes (PB) of data are created every day. Almost all of it is encrypted using standard RSA algorithms.

  • 4000 qubits is the estimated processing power needed to crack RSA 2048-bit encryption.
  • 2500 qubits can crack RSA 256-bit encryption.
  • 1,125 is the largest quantum computer to be announced publicly. It was unveiled in October of 2023.

Shor’s algorithm, the theoretical foundation for using quantum machines to crack RSA and other non-quantum encryption protocols, turns 30 years old in 2024.
